Photo taken on January 24, 2023 Niigata Prefecture is experiencing a severe cold wave that's said to occur only once every few years. Looking to refresh both body and mind on a precious day off, I headed to the day-trip hot spring, Yahiko Sakuraikyo Onsen Sakura no Yu. I've been there a few times before, but this was my first visit, as it fell on one of the five irregular closing days per year. I dashed in despite the heavy snowfall! At the reception, I happened to find a "Nukunu Coupon" online, and simply showed it to the staff, who gave me a whopping ¥100 off! For ¥1,050, I was able to borrow two towels and a yukata! I headed straight to the hot spring to warm up my chilled body! The natural free-flowing hot spring has a subtle sulfur smell, and the quality of the spring water has changed with each major earthquake. Currently, it is a sodium and calcium chloride spring. It was very comfortable, warming, and felt great. Afterwards, we went to Restaurant Hitoyo and chose the tempura bowl and soba noodle set. Both were delicious and we were very satisfied!
