This time, I took a stroll through the Tengu-Nakazakidori Shopping Street—a hidden gem nestled within a district known for its lively drinking spots. I highly recommend experiencing the unique, vibrant atmosphere of this area at least once! The History of Tengu-Nakazakidori Shopping Street Tengu-Nakazakidori Shopping Street stretches from the west side of Tenjinbashisuji 5-chome toward the Nakazakicho neighborhood, retaining a strong, nostalgic Showa-era atmosphere. Its name is derived from "Tengu" (short for Tenjinbashisuji 5-chome) and "Nakazakidori" (referring to the street leading to Nakazakicho). The area saw significant development during the post-war recovery period, becoming a hub for numerous markets and independent shops that supported the daily lives of local residents. While the covered arcade still bears traces of the Showa era—featuring traditional diners, greengrocers, and butcher shops—recent years have seen an influx of cafes, variety stores, and vintage clothing shops, creating a streetscape where old and new cultures harmonize.
