This is the Biggest Fish Market in UGANDA | Gaba Landing Site
In this video, a few ugandan creators and i along with travel with twaha headed over to Gaba Landing site to find out which activities which activities majorly took place having heard of it weeks ago. Gaba landing site is found on Lake Victoria, in Ggaba, Kampala Uganda. It is used as a centre for fish trade in Uganda. the site is frequented by people who go to Ggaba beach with in the neighbourhood. The site has a market where fish and foodstuffs are sold. it also has storage units, a trading point for fish, and offices for Kampala Capital City authority, which supervises the activities on the site. Fishermen set off from the site and return with fish to sell. The fish mostly caught in the waters near the site include: Nile perch, Tilapia, Lung fish and Cat fish. Fishing is mostly done in the middle of the lake, a little distance from the site. It is tilapia that is fished near the shore. Fishing has changed at the site over the years, from using small canoes to using motorized boats. The mode of transportation of fish has also evolved. Sometimes The fish are moved in containers with ice, unlike before when they were simply dropped inside a boat and then delivered. In mid-2015, Gaba landing site was the leading supplier of fish in Kampala with over twelve tons of fish harvested and sold every single day, according to the Kampala City Council Authority councillor at the landing site. Over one thousand people work in fishing and fish processing, while more than thirty people are employed in the boat making business. Fish processing includes smoking, filleting, salting and sun drying the fresh fish. Interestingly though, on arrival to Gaba, the goods market is the first thing one sees. Some of the commodities sold there include dry fish, plastic containers, dry foodstuffs, clothes, bags, vegetables, and fishing equipment. This market grew, and continues to grow because the occupants of the landing site see an opportunity to sell other products alongside fish. At the moment, it appears that the trade in other merchandise has surpassed the fish market. #Gaba #Kampala #Uganda
