The diminutive Kingdom of Bahrain is an island nation in the Persian Gulf. The Dilmun civilisation is one of the oldest in the region and its history is well recorded in the excellent National Museum and at the Bahrain Fort. The capital Manama (the only urban area of any size in the country) is a mixture of old and modern and is easy to get around either on foot, by bus or by taxi.
