Priya Purushothaman: Raag Miyan Malhar

Priya Purushothaman was the featured artiste for FEA's "Musical Ecologies" event at Bangalore International Centre, Domlur. The concert was an attempt to explore and experience Nature as a world of emotion and the connections between the Environment and Music. Since the event took place in the middle of the Indian Monsoons, Priya decided to perform variations in Raag Malhar. What made the performance unique was her choice of bandishes through the program. She began her recital with two bandishes in Raag Miyan Malhar - the first was the traditional "Tu Gaj So Aaya" in Tilwada followed by a composition by her guru, Pt. Dinkar Kaikini called "Kaari Re Badariya in Ektaal. Priya was accompanied by Swapnil Bhise on tabla and Vyasmurti Katti on harmonium. Tanpura support was provided by Manisha Vyas and Sowmya Bhat.
