Vauxhall Insignia Battery Change

In this video, I change a battery in my daughter's Vauxhall insignia. She had been quoted £260 as the car needed recoding. I am unsure if the coding is needed( but i am sure that a lot of people will have paid for this service)! I had been told it is for the ems on newer cars. However, i changed my Kia Sportage without problem and see no reason the Vauxhall will be any different. Please comment either for or against in this coding debate with explanations if possible.
