Cristóbal Balenciaga Eizaguirre, known simply as Balenciaga, was a prestigious Spanish fashion designer, considered one of the most important creators of haute couture, who worked primarily in Paris for over three decades. He had previously trained as a tailor and owned several of his own brands in Spain. A contemporary of Coco Chanel and Christian Dior, he is the most important Spanish haute couture designer in history, along with Manuel Pertegaz and Elio Berhanyer.
