Jura wines explained. Essential guide to Jura region.
#jurawines #juraregion #vinjaune Jura is the most underrated wine region in France in my option. Is located in between Burgundy and Switzerland on the Eastern part of France. The region is divided into five main subregions including Arbois (famous for their red wines), Côtes du Jura, which is found from north to south; L'Etoile, featuring the Chardonnay grape variety; and Château-Chalon, which produces Vin Jaune (yellow wine) exclusively. There are also Macvin du Jura (liqueur), Crémant du Jura (sparkling wine) Vin de Paille (sweet wine made from dried out grapes) and Marc du Jura (distilled brandy). There are five grape varieties in the Jura: Chardonnay, Savagnin, Poulsard, Trousseau and Pinot Noir. Is good to know that Jura's flagship wine (Vin Jaune) is bottled in 62cl bottle called Clavelin. Apart of that Jura region also produce wine called Tradition which is made in similar way to Vin Jaune but aged for shorted period of time. Wines without oxidation treatment are called Nature.
