MCS Coronation Concert at Birmingham Symphony Hall

At the end of Hilary term 2023, we took the whole school to Birmingham Symphony Hall for a special concert celebrating forthcoming Coronation of Charles III. The concert opened with impressive performances by the Symphony Orchestra, before being joined by Sinfonia to create the largest orchestra we have ever had at MCS, with 140 players on stage performing Walton’s Crown Imperial. The second half featured Magdalen College Choir, The Magdalen Sixth, Schola Cantorum, MCS Chorus and the Symphony Orchestra; the concert ending with the whole school on their feet singing Jerusalem and The National Anthem. It was an incredible opportunity to gather the whole school community together in some really uplifting music. It was a once-in-a-generation opportunity, and one that will live in our memories for a very long time.
