HOW MUCH CORD DO YOU NEED?? Two methods to calculate how much macrame cord you need for your project

In this video I go through two methods for calculating how much cord you need for your new macrame project. Here is a brief description of both: 1. Simple/geometric patterns - in order to use this one I need to know how much cord do I need per 1 knot in the pattern. It is best if you can test this with the same type and size of rope (e.g. single twist 5mm) as we all tie knots with different strength - some will be tighter and some looser with varying cord length. The formula is then the following: (A+(B*number of knots)+C)*2 A = How much cord do you need to attach it to your dowel rod B = How much cord do you need per 1 knot C = How long do you want your fringe If you can't test how much cord you need per 1 knot here is a guide (keep in mind these are my knots, so yours might be a bit tighter/looser): 1 SQUARE KNOT Single twist cord and 3ply cord 1,5mm - 3 cm 3mm - 5 cm 5mm - 6 cm Braided cord - because of the stretchiness of the cord here is especially where your knots can be quite different 5mm - 6 cm 1 BERRY KNOT Single twist cord and 3ply cord 1,5mm - 12 cm 3mm - 18 cm 5mm - 24 cm Braided cord - because of the stretchiness of the cord here is especially where your knots can be quite different 5mm - 18 cm 10 CM OF THE SPIRAL KNOT (=how much cord you need to create 10 cm of the spiral knot) Single twist cord and 3ply cord 1,5mm - 52 cm 3mm - 46 cm 5mm - 40 cm Braided cord - because of the stretchiness of the cord here is especially where your knots can be quite different 5mm - 24 cm 2.Complicated pattern - when you can't calculate how many knots are in your pattern.
