If We Build It, They Will Come | Downicary Update
That was the hope when these new ponds were created as part of the Downicary rewilding project in the UK. But the speed of wildlife returning has taken even Chris Packham by surprise. The ponds are already alive with frogspawn, with tadpoles developing in the water; a clear sign that amphibians have quickly found their new habitat. Along the riverbank, however, something even more intriguing is happening. Mud and sticks are being moved, and a lodge may be forming under the soil. Could the beavers be building again? With wildlife camera traps set up, Chris and the team investigate what’s going on after dark. The footage reveals more than expected, including signs of a hidden beaver lodge and other riverbank wildlife. How many beavers do you think are using this stretch of river?
