Cooking a curry becomes family event

There's a saying that the kitchen is the heart of the home… and at Happy House, we certainly have a very big heart! This week, charity trustee Lewis Hall has been visiting our family in Watamu and decided to do something a little different by cooking a special chicken curry dinner for everyone at Happy House, staff and the children. Cooking for more than 60 people is no small task! Before the cooking could begin there was a mountain of preparation to do. The children all joined in to help prepare the vegetables, peeling and chopping over 6kg of onions, potatoes, carrots and tomatoes together. There was plenty of teamwork, laughter and chatter as everybody gathered around helping out in the kitchen. The cooking preparations quickly turned into a celebration of fun and togetherness. Music started playing, dancing broke out between the chopping boards and cooking pots, and the kitchen was filled with joy. Our wonderful cook Michael looked slightly stressed at first as his usually calm and organised kitchen suddenly became much louder and more energetic than normal… but it certainly brought a lot of fun to the evening!
