Best most versatile daytrip in Crete through the mountains to the famous Kourtaliotiko gorge with its amazing rock formations. The gorge is the source from the Megalo Potamos river and you see the water coming straight out of the rocks with full force, ending up just a few meters down in the beautiful waterfall.The pipes you see laying around are from villages connecting part of the source to their drinkingwatersystem.From there it is only a small drive to the Preveli monastry, a small paradise and a real garden of Eden, with a religious museum.To reach the amazing palmforest you have to go all the way down to the beach. For small childeren and old people it is hard to go down. When you enter the little beach with its tree that give shadow you see the river streaming along the beach, bring shoes because there are a lot of stones in the water. The palmforest is officialy closed because of danger for bushfire, the fence is closed and signposts tell you not to enter.When you do enter you see the river meandering through the rocks and it is flanked by partly huge palmtrees. It is very beautiful, tranquil and full of birds, turtles and other wildlife.
