The Salvadoran Navy has dealt the most significant blow to drug trafficking in the country's history. On June 18, 2026, our personnel intercepted a low-profile vessel (LPV) 582 nautical miles (1,074 km) southwest of the El Cordoncillo inlet in the Jaltepeque Estuary. On board were three drug traffickers: two Colombians and one Ecuadorian, who were transporting 3.425 tons of cocaine. Six hours later, in the same area of ​​operation, a second vessel with the same characteristics was located 633 nautical miles (1,172 km) southwest of the El Cordoncillo inlet. This vessel was carrying another three drug traffickers: two Colombians and one Ecuadorian, who were transporting 3.255 tons of cocaine. In total, 6.68 tons of cocaine were seized, valued at approximately $167 million. This operation sets a new national record, surpassing the 6,606 tons seized in a single operation on February 13, 2016. With this latest blow to international drug trafficking, El Salvador has now seized 13,286 tons of cocaine so far in 2016, valued at more than $332.15 million.
