Today I'm taking you on a beautiful hike along the Marlinger Waalweg (Waal Path) – the longest of its kind in South Tyrol. From Tel to Lana, the trail leads us through forests, orchards, and vineyards with stunning views of Merano and the surrounding area. So take a look, enjoy – and subscribe to the channel so you don't miss any more videos! 🌞👣🍇 🌿 The Marlinger Waalweg – South Tyrol's Longest Irrigation Path At approximately 12 kilometers, the Marlinger Waalweg is the longest irrigation canal path in South Tyrol and a true natural and cultural experience. It begins at the Adige Bridge in Tel (municipality of Partschins) and leads almost flat through shady forests, orchards, and vineyards above Forst, Marling, and Tscherms to Lana – always with impressive views of the Merano Basin, the Ifinger, and the Hirzer. 💧 History & Route The Waal was built by the Carthusian monks from Schnals between 1737 and 1756 to irrigate their land near Marling. The water is caught at the Passer River in Saltaus, and the water is channeled through a partially underground canal to Lana. Particularly impressive: the adventurous section of the trail with wooden walkways, rocky outcrops, and narrow passages on the Nörderberg. 🏰 Sights along the trail Lebenberg Castle (13th century): Well-preserved castle above Marling, open for guided tours from April to October.
