Ep. 87: The LDS Godhead Creation Dilemma

Who's Missing in the LDS Godhead, and Why Aren't LDS Apologists Including this Essential Person? Bill Young argues that LDS critiques of the Christian Trinity ignore a “creation dilemma” within Mormonism: the LDS Godhead depends on an essential yet largely absent Heavenly Mother (and, by implication, multiple heavenly mothers) to produce spirit children, making Jesus and the Holy Spirit contingent on her existence. He claims Heavenly Mother is not mentioned in LDS canon (Book of Mormon, Pearl of Great Price, Doctrine and Covenants) or temple endowments, and that evidence for her rests on Eliza R. Snow’s poem/hymn, a brief 1909 First Presidency statement referencing “glorified parents,” and the 1995 Family Proclamation’s phrase “heavenly parents.” He notes the Gospel Topics Essay “Mother in Heaven” admits no formal revelation to Joseph Smith and relies on inference, and he cites only seven General Conference mentions since the 1850s. He concludes Christians should “boomerang” the Trinity objection back to LDS and urges choosing the biblical triune God. 00:00 Welcome and Setup 01:31 Trinity Quick Review 03:41 Four Headed Godhead 06:16 Heavenly Mother Revealed 07:33 Why She Matters 12:11 Where Is She in Scripture 13:41 Names and Temple Silence 15:19 Satire and Racial Claims 17:40 Thin Evidence Exposed 24:52 Conference and Essay Audit 31:57 Mother’s Day Application 36:31 Two Gods Choose Life 38:33 Final Call and Farewell RESOURCES https://byustudies.byu.edu/article/a-...
