Icelandic forestry is a win win for everyone
The lodgepole pine (Pinus contorta) is not to be considered an invasive species and its self-seeding is easy to control. These are initial results of a long-term study of self-seeding of imported tree species. The project funded by the National Georaphic Society does not indicate that Icelandic nature is endangered by pine or other imported tree species. Lodgepole pine, on the other hand, is a very good tree type for reclaiming land and it turns out that it even can help the native birch to gain new ground, as they seem to growing well together.
