Downtime: Emergent narrative in old-school adventure RPGs - (OSR, Basic D&D)
As I've been exploring a megadungeon solo, I've found a lot of really natural opportunities for narrative to emerge from the play just as it does in group play. I think this is because of the implied play loop of old school RPGs and, of course, the fragile nature of Basic D&D characters. I outline how events in play can help narrative emerge and how this differs with modern "adventure path" play.
