ABOUT PSYCHOANALYSIS: Psychoanalysis is a clinical and theoretical research field of the human psyche, independent of Psychology, originating in Medicine, developed by Sigmund Freud, a physician who graduated in 1881, worked at the Vienna General Hospital, and had contact with the French neurologist Jean-Martin Charcot, who showed him the use of hypnosis. Sigmund Freud is considered the father of psychoanalysis. Freud, an Austrian neurologist, proposed this method for understanding and analyzing the human psyche, understood as a subject of the unconscious, encompassing three areas: a method of investigating the psyche and its functioning; a theoretical system about human experience and behavior; a treatment method characterized by the application of the free association technique. Essentially, it is a theory of personality and a psychotherapy procedure; Psychoanalysis has influenced many other schools of thought and disciplines within the humanities, generating a theoretical basis for understanding ethics, morality, and human culture. In common parlance, the term "psychoanalysis" is often used synonymously with "psychotherapy" or even "psychology." However, in more precise terms, psychology refers to the science that studies behavior and mental processes, psychotherapy to the clinical application of the knowledge obtained through it—that is, therapeutic work based on the theoretical body of psychology as a whole—and psychoanalysis refers to the form of psychotherapy based on theories stemming from the work of Sigmund Freud.
