With the Chum dying out and the coho taking their place this is a special time of year in Southwest Washington. Generally speaking these B Run Coho are beyond eager to take a fly! However with low and clear waters, it's crucial to move at a deliberate pace. Patience is key as you navigate these smaller systems. Chum salmon may not be easily spooked, but coho are a different story. Approach with caution! Bring an assortment of flies, varying not only in size but also in weight and color. Experiment with different weighted flies to explore various depths of water and drop rates. Don't forget your sink tip! A sink tip can be a game-changer. We forgot ours on this last trip and even with a spawn super bead, adding a bit of tungsten putty above the fly on a swivel helped us reach deeper pools where the big coho were hanging out!
