Gardens and Orchards: Transplanting Poppy Seedlings As explained in previous videos, which you can find on our YouTube channel http://goo.gl/iWkSst, Santiago explained one of the propagation methods, in this case, transplanting poppy plants. The idea is to transplant those plants that sprouted naturally from seed into pots for later sale. The first thing to do is carefully mark the root ball with a trowel to avoid damaging the roots. Once the plant is removed from the soil, it is placed in a pot with compost. Remember that compost is the best fertilizer, since we always work organically in the nursery. It is advisable to remove any damaged leaves so that the newly transplanted poppy can grow stronger. The days leading up to spring are the best time to transplant, ideally in the late afternoon after the sun has gone down, so the plant doesn't suffer too much. Even if it's an outdoor plant, it's recommended that it spend the night in a greenhouse or under cover.
