Naomi's Brain Tumour Story: Stereotactic Radiosurgery For My Acoustic Neuroma

Naomi was diagnosed with an acoustic neuroma (vestibular schwannoma) in 2016. Before that, she had years of symptoms that didn’t quite make sense — numbness in her face, balance issues, hearing changes, and the feeling that something was wrong. After diagnosis, Naomi underwent stereotactic radiosurgery. Later, she faced regrowth and needed Gamma Knife treatment. What followed was one of the hardest parts of her journey: delayed radiation side effects, daily falls, fatigue, vestibular rehab, and the loss of the career that had shaped her identity. In this moving interview, Naomi shares: • Her route to diagnosis • The emotional confusion of living with an acoustic neuroma • Hearing loss and balance problems • Regrowth and second treatment • Vestibular rehab and fatigue • Ill health retirement and identity loss • Finding purpose again through volunteering and creativity • Why Brainstrust changed her life Naomi now runs Hope Mosaics, a creative project that gives back to the brain tumour community while helping her rebuild life on new terms.
