Publishing with a University Press
On February 11, 2021, Greg Britton, editorial director of Johns Hopkins University Press, explains how to get your scholarship from a manuscript to a printed book. He discusses pitching to a press and finding the right press for one’s work, writing a compelling proposal and the many steps between contract and publication. The presentation is followed by a Q&A. **** Greg Britton is editorial director of Johns Hopkins University Press, where he oversees the selection of 170 new books annually. He also acquires the Press’s award-winning list in Higher Educations studies. Prior to his appointment at Hopkins, Britton directed Getty Publications at the Getty Museum, Los Angeles. He is active in both the Association of American Publishers and the Association of University Presses, which gave him their 2016 Constituency Award. In 2018, the Council of Independent Colleges presented Hopkins with its Academic Leadership Award for their books in Higher Ed.
