$3 Fountain Pen Comparison: Pilot Varsity vs Platinum Preppy

What is the best $3 fountain pen: The Pilot Varsity ( https://amzn.to/2GKeAGe ) / V-Pen or the Platinum Preppy ( https://amzn.to/2GHnGHx )? They are both good pens, but the Platinum Preppy is my pick. It's really an incredible offering at $3 or so. It's not only a solid cartridge pen, but it can easily be converted to a eyedropper with a huge capacity. Plus it looks really cool. The Varsity is fine, and has a unique design where you can use it, put it down for years... and when you next pick it up it'll work great.
