The shooting of the teenage demonstrator, who was hit in the chest by a live round on October 1, was the first use of lethal force by police in nearly four months of civil unrest. The next day, protesters staged rallies before the night-time rampage targeted mainland Chinese-linked businesses as well as several MTR stations. Tai Wai, Tseung Kwan O and Sha Tin stations were among those damaged, resulting in long delays for rail commuters on the morning of October 3.
