What Building A "New" BMW Engine Looks Like

In this episode, the replacement N54 starts to finally come together. After tearing down the original metal-filled engine and transferring over reusable components, it's time to continue building the replacement engine for my 2008 BMW 335i. This video covers installation of brand new OE Mitsubishi turbos and turbo oil/coolant lines, rear main seal replacement, engine timing verification using the BMW timing tools, injector Teflon seal replacement on Index 12 injectors, valve cover gasket replacement, spark plug installation, and more. Along the way, I run into a setback that delays the project, but we keep pushing forward and get the replacement N54 one step closer to going back into the car. This series documents what it actually takes to replace a BMW engine from start to finish, including drivetrain removal, engine teardown, parts transfer, engine assembly, torque specifications, specialty tools, and the countless small details that most videos leave out.
