Lately, I feel like my air conditioner isn't working as well as it used to. During the hot summer, the air conditioner didn't cool as well as it should, and instead gave off a stuffy feeling. It's not that it doesn't cool at all, which is frustrating, but I think it might be because there isn't enough air conditioning gas. Our air conditioner is over a decade old. We've been using it for a long time without any issues, and aside from it not working as well, there are no problems with its operation. After doing some research, I found that with older air conditioners, even if there aren't any dramatic holes or leaks, there can be a gradual leak from the service port, which is the gas connection to the outside, or from the gas on/off valve. If this happens, it's possible that there will eventually be a gas shortage. So, I decided to vacuum the gas pipes to check for leaks, and if there were no leaks, I decided to add more gas. The low pressure during operation is the guideline for when to add more gas. Normally, when the compressor is running at full capacity for cooling, it is said to be around 0.8 to 1.0 MPa. I'll add more gas while keeping an eye on this pressure. To be precise, my air conditioner uses R410A, which is a mixed gas. Since the ratio of the constituent gases may have changed, the theory would be to collect all the gas and then refill it, but the cost of collecting it is very high, so I'm going with the attitude that if refilling it cools me down, that's fine!
