Finding My Analog Self In A Digital World: Brian Faherty at TEDxPortland

In this gripping personal narrative, Brian explores the balance between the digital frontier and the technology ecosystem that surrounds us today, as well as his emerging anxiety about how and when we interact with our "smart" world. At the core -- it's about trying to find our true self and to be true to others. Brian Faherty, owner, founder and creative director of Schoolhouse Electric & Supply Co., began the lighting and lifestyle housewares brand in 2003. His passion stems from his desire to help people create personal spaces that inspire. Faherty is a proponent of micro-manufacturing and believes that building a strong U.S. vendor community will help to put the United States back on the map as a thoughtful, sustainable and competitive place to manufacture quality goods. Faherty lives with his wife, Jill, and their three children in Portland. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
