Painting in the Macchiaioli style Sketch painting, outdoor painting began at the end of the eighteenth century and throughout the nineteenth century to be a discovery throughout the Western world. Painting from life is interpreted in all countries according to one's own pictorial sensitivity. In Italy, an Italy that was building itself in the midst of the wars of independence, an artistic movement was taking shape that marked an important season for the history of Italian painting. The movement known as Macchiaioli was born. Painting from life was an essential prerogative of that group especially for the first pictorial experiences. In the various Tuscan estates, the painters chose their subjects and painted them with synthetic spots of color. The synthetic sketch was a specificity of working with oil colors outdoors because one worked with thick colors and because the possibility of painting full-bodied stylized forms and building a robust compositional structure in one go was facilitated by the material with which one was going to paint. In this video I humbly tried to create those conditions and paint in the manner of the Macchiaioli regarding the compositional style and the way of stylizing the shapes through few tones, few colors, essential to have a quick realization of a finished sketch, which represents the spirit of the time.
