East Timor: 'Stolen child' reunites with family after 32 years - BBC News

They became known as East Timor's stolen generation - around 4,000 children taken from their families in the 1980s and 1990s during Indonesia's brutal occupation. Some were conscripted into the Indonesian military; others taken by religious groups or state institutions. Indonesia calls them the "separated children" and denies they were taken by force. Now a local NGO is taking them back to East Timor - now an independent nation - for the first time. The BBC followed Alberto Mohamed, now 43, as he returns to track down his family.
