HPCSA: Medical certificates must follow strict ethical standards
Health Professions Council of SA’s David Mametja says medical certificates must be issued in line with strict ethical and professional standards. This is amid renewed scrutiny over their use at the Madlanga Commission. The issue resurfaced after chief evidence leader Matthew Chaskalson sought businessman Suleiman Karim’s medical records following reports that he had been seen at a Western Cape shopping mall despite submitting medical certificates to excuse his absence from proceedings.
