The acceptance certificate was signed, representing ENVC, by Engineer Jorge Camões and, representing the Portuguese State, by delegation of His Excellency the Minister of National Defence, by Admiral José Saldanha Lopes, Chief of Staff of the Navy. The NRP Figueira da Foz is primarily intended to defend national interests and to carry out other tasks of public interest in areas of Portuguese jurisdiction or responsibility. This ship is particularly suited to operate in the national Exclusive Economic Zone, developing specific tasks in the areas of search and rescue at sea, fisheries inspection and navigation control, in particular with regard to traffic separation schemes, prevention and combating of illegal activities such as drug trafficking, illegal immigration, arms trafficking and other illicit activities, in collaboration and support of other national authorities. In addition to these tasks, this ship has the capacity to cooperate in low-intensity military operations, as well as in actions arising from the promulgation of a state of siege or emergency and in humanitarian support following a natural disaster. The NRP Figueira da Foz incorporates the latest technologies for Ocean Patrol Vessels. With multifaceted capabilities, it is equipped with several integrated systems, namely Navigation, Control and Communications, and Platform Control, the latter allowing support for daytime and nighttime landing/takeoff operations of medium-sized helicopters. With considerable autonomy, great maneuverability and automation, demonstrated in sea trials, the ship can cover the entire Portuguese Exclusive Economic Zone. The NRP Figueira da Foz is commanded by Lieutenant Commander Ricardo Manuel Correia Guerreiro and has a crew of 38 military personnel.
