🔷 #September 12th gave birth to all the evil that followed, all of which were encouraged by him. 🔶 The distance between being a political prisoner and being a shareholder in political power is very short in this country. 🔷 The law has never been so disregarded, even if only formally. 🔷 If I were to write about this period, I would start by examining hypocritical conservatism. 🔶 Daily politics is a closed chapter for me. #SırrıSüreyyaÖnder is a rare creature. He has no equal. He doesn't try to be. From the moment he first appeared in the public sphere, he has carved a place for himself in everyone's life. Beyond his intelligence and talents, his persona has a significant impact on this. We don't know where he came from, where he went, or what kind of life he led. But we are curious about him. His words, his writings, and his films fuel this curiosity even further. We constantly expect something from him. He never disappoints us. He wanders freely, like a man who owes nothing to this world; he always has a greeting for everyone, a story to learn from everyone. His conversation is unparalleled. His humor, adorned with his quick wit, makes one laugh. There's something about his ease that reminds one of the better days to come. His fearlessness. He's a man of conversation. But first and foremost, he's a writer. His writing, polished by the breath of oral tradition and leaving a luminous mark on the reader's universe, is cut from the fabric of a true writer. His magic lies in the humor he adorns with his quick wit. He peels back the truth, revealing it naked, by looking at it from its unseen side. Sırrı Süreyya is a filmmaker, a television host, a newspaper columnist, and a politician. But above all, he's a long-distance driver. Not just because he spent years driving a truck and traveled every inch of his country. Nor because he drove tens of thousands of kilometers during his time as a member of parliament. He began his journey in Adıyaman, steeped there, and has seen, learned, and weighed all the paths of this region. His journey has continued from photographer's apprentice to parliamentary speaker, shaping the fate of peoples. He is a long-distance rider, always alert, always sober, and always patient, without a moment's blink. He spent the most intense part of his youth in prison, suffering torture. He endured years of dungeon-like hardship. It's impossible to intimidate him with threats. He was also among those who ignited the Gezi resistance. When he stood in front of the excavator that targeted the trees and declared, "I am also the representative of the trees," he was a representative of the people. And when he read a peace letter to tens of thousands of people in the squares during the peace process, he became a representative of all peoples who desire peace. Sırrı Süreyya decided to return to literature and cinema. You don't ask a long-distance rider, "How much further is left?"
