The Music of Hanna-Barbera's TV Years - In The Groove
Sure, you've heard the music... but have you heard their names? Hoyt Curtin and Ted Nichols are two cool cats who just-so-happened to help make your childhood a little more awesome, and you probably never even knew it! They made the music that helped put Hanna-Barbera on the map when they ventured out into the world of the small screen in 1957. Hello, and welcome to In The Groove! I'm Cade Utterback, and in this documentary, I take some time (well over an hour, in fact) to discuss and analyze the music of Hanna-Barbera Productions and their television cartoons. Almost all of the music you'll hear in this documentary was composed by Hoyt Curtin or Ted Nichols, who were the two primary musical directors for Hanna-Barbera from 1957 to 1986. Our archives span from 1958-1973, so there was a whole lot of music to work with in making this documentary. I hope you enjoy the fruits of my labor after several months of production. I went through many hardships while making this - even the second half of my script got corrupted and I had to start from scratch - but I'm super happy with the overall product and I hope that you enjoy it! In The Groove was made as part of my capstone class in media production while at Murray State University. (I hope I passed!) UPDATE 2/17/2023: I'm happy to announce that this episode of "In The Groove" placed 1st in the Documentary Feature category (in the Student Documentary Competition) as part of the 2023 BEA Festival of Media Arts Awards!
