Carel Anton Fodor; Piano Concerto in D, Op.1/5 [1790]
Carel Anton Fodor (1768-1846) (a.k.a. Carolus Antonius Fodor, Antoine Fodor, Karl Anton Fodor) was a Dutch composer, somehow the first I've featured on the channel. His brothers Josephus and Charles were also composers, and he is sometimes confused with Charles. Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carel_A... IMSLP: https://imslp.org/wiki/Category:Fodor... He published at least 8 piano concertos, though the numbering is in question. I have scores for 3 unrecorded concertos from IMSLP, Opp.1, 5, and 8, (there are 2 more, but they are recorded) but it turns out that Op.1 and Op.5 are the same piece. But it's good I downloaded both as they are both incomplete but in different ways. Op.1 was missing the horn parts (there's a file labeled horns which turned out to actually be the 2nd oboe.) And Op.5 was missing the trumpets (the file labeled trumpets there is actually - the horns). So between the two I was able to assemble the complete concerto. I don't know the reason for the discrepancy, but it seems to be an old one, as both scores have contemporary-seeming title pages with different opus numbers. It's possible that he published the same piece twice with different publishers to get more royalties, which was easier to get away with back then. There's another piece labeled Op.5 which is a symphony, not a concerto. (The Op.8 is a different piece, and I will be publishing that in the near future.) If you like what I do, please consider supporting me on Patreon: patreon.com/ForgottenPianoConcertos Patrons get priority requests, and early releases on all my videos. Movements: 0:00 - I. Allegro 10:21 - II. Adagio 13:20 - III. Rondo a la Russe There are recordings available for 2 of his other concertos: Op.12: • Carolus Antonius Fodor - Concerto for Fort... Op.16: • worst piano concerto ever Carel Anton Fodo... (1st movement only - never mind the uploader's opinion in the title of this video...) The Op.21 also apparently has a recording though I have not heard it. Disclaimer: Yes, it's synthesized. Obviously real musicians with real instruments would be vastly superior, but this simulated performance is better than nothing at all, which is what existed previously. My greatest wish is that these videos will inspire someone with the means to arrange a real performance and hopefully record and publish it so we can hear them in their full glory. If that someone is you, or you know of an existing recording of this, please let me know and I may add a link to this description.
