LBSCR Billinton E2 Tank Pack

The E2's were a small class of steam locomotive designed by Lawson Billinton of the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway and first introduced in 1913. Presented here is the 1915 batch of 5 locomotives which came with longer tanks. Liveries are included to represent the range of liveries these locomotives will have carried, right from the pre-grouping LBSCR liveries, through the Southern era, right up to 1963, when the last ones were scrapped. The E2's spent their initial lives around London, on the LBSCR network. They tended to be used for shunting and short-haul freight duties, not having great coal or water capacity. They were also used for empty stock workings in and around Victoria and London Bridge stations. As the British Railways era began, the loco's were seen as surplus. However, were given one last chance, and 6 were sent to Southampton Docks to be tried out there. They were a success! The last one was scrapped in 1963. Not bad for a class of only 10 locomotives!
