Israel releases Palestinian prisoners in Ramallah
Palestinian crowds in Ramallah, in the West Bank, erupted in joy as they welcomed home prisoners released by Israel as part of a hostage swap. The men — their heads shaven and wearing grey tracksuits — were carried on shoulders through people waving Palestinian and Hamas flags. In total, 200 prisoners are being released today in exchange for the female Israeli soldiers. About 70 prisoners accused of the most serious crimes are not being returned to the West Bank but are expected to be deported to Qatar or Turkey instead.
