Fans React to the 2026 Japanese Grand Prix

The 2026 Japanese Grand Prix is our third race of the season, and our last for over a month, giving us more time to sit with it and evaluate the new regulations. The weekend started off as usual, with Mercedes locking out the front row in qualifying, but McLaren's surprising pace saw them split the Ferraris on the grid. This carried into the race, as Oscar Piastri, making his first Grand Prix start of the year, rocketed into the lead ahead of Charles Leclerc and teammate Lando Norris. The Mercedes cars dropped to 4th and 6th respectively, but eventually used their raw speed to claw their way back into contention. A heavy crash for Ollie Bearman at Spoon Curve saw the safety car deployed, and the race changed drastically, as Kimi Antonelli took full advantage to pit and come out in the lead of the race. From there, he never looked back and took the second race win of his career, as well as his second win in a row. Piastri came home in a distant 2nd place after leading the early stages of the race, and Leclerc held off Russell to take 3rd. Norris overtook Hamilton on the penultimate lap to secure 5th, and Gasly held off Verstappen to finish 7th, scoring yet more points for Alpine.
