With access point mode, you will get much faster internet speeds (and less latency) compared to extender mode. To set up your extender in access point mode, you first need to configure it in extender mode. Once you’ve set up your device in extender mode, you need to access your extender’s settings using a mobile device (e.g. laptop, phone, tablet, etc.). One important note here is that one you’ve set up your extender in extender mode, the IP address of the extender will likely change because your router will assign it a new IP address. To find out the new IP address of your extender, you can access your router’s settings to see what devices are connected to its WiFi network. Once the new IP address of your extender has been determined, type the IP address into an internet browser search bar to access your device’s settings. From there, you need to connect your extender and router with an ethernet cable. It’s important you do this before changing the mode of your extender to access point mode. After connecting your router and extender with an ethernet cable, in your extender’s settings you can select Access Point mode to change the mode that the extender is operating in. It will then reboot in Access Point mode. At this point, you can move your extender to the location of your home that will provide WiFi coverage to your existing WiFi dead spots.
