This test assesses the structural integrity of davit-launched lifeboats under various loading conditions, ensuring their capability to withstand emergency situations at sea. Lifeboat and davit testing is a critical process that ensures that these Life-Saving Appliances (LSAs) can safely evacuate crew and passengers from a vessel in emergency situations. Davits are mechanical devices that are used to lower lifeboats from a ship into the water and must function properly with the weight of the lifeboat plus its maximum occupancy. Regular testing of these systems is required to ensure they are reliable in emergency situations. Load testing is the most common method of compliance procedure for lifeboats and davits. During this process, the lifeboat is loaded with certified test weights with an equivalent load to simulate its maximum capacity. The davits are then used to lower the lifeboat into the water and raise it back up again while measuring the loads on the davits and the stability of the lifeboat.
