He is one of the most popular Bengali novelists. Most of his works depict the lifestyles of village people, their struggles, and the hardships they faced. Furthermore, his works provide a glimpse into the social life of contemporary Bengal. Sharat Chandra is one of India's most popular and most translated writers of all time. Sharat Chandra wrote numerous novels, prominent among them being Pandit Moshai, Baikunther Bill, Mej Didi, Darpachurna, Shrikant, Arakshaniya, Nishkriti, Mamalar Phal, Grihadah, Shesh Prashna, Datta, Devdas, Brahmin Ki Ladki, Vipradas, Dena Pavana, etc. The novel "Pather Dabi" was written on the revolutionary movement in Bengal. It was first serialized in "Bang Vani," then published in book form, and the 3,000-page edition sold out within three months. The British government subsequently confiscated it. Sharat's novels have been translated into several Indian languages. Although Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay claimed to be inspired by the works of Bankim Chandra Chatterjee and Rabindranath Tagore, his work brought recognition to the lower strata of society.
