Mardin Anıtlı Köyü dünyanın en iyi turizm köyleri arasına seçildi
Midyat's historic Anıtlı neighborhood, named to the United Nations (UN) World Tourism Organization's "Best Tourism Villages 2025" list, will strengthen Mardin's tourism momentum. About 30 kilometers from Midyat, the historic village of Anıtlı, which was converted from a village to a neighborhood with the Metropolitan Municipality Law enacted in 2012, preserves its natural beauty and boasts fascinating historical artifacts. Formerly known as "Hah," Anıtlı boasts the ruins of the Mor Sobo Cathedral, which served as a metropolitan center for nine centuries after the Mor Gabriel Monastery, and the Church of the Virgin Mary, built on the site of a 2,000-year-old monument. Anıtlı, with its rich potential for faith tourism, was included in the UN World Tourism Organization's "Best Tourism Villages 2015" list, among 52 villages from 29 countries deemed worthy of the award. This title is expected to further boost the region's tourism sector. "Midyat is now a shining star not only in Türkiye but also worldwide." Midyat Mayor Veysi Şahin stated that Anıtlı, located in the Turabdin region, is among the most important centers for Syriacs. Şahin explained that the Midyat Municipality initiated work under a protocol signed with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in 2022, and reminded everyone that they had completed the necessary requirements and submitted their applications by 2023. Şahin also noted that Anıtlı was included on the UN World Tourism Organization's "Best Tourism Villages" list this year. He announced that they were one of four villages selected from Türkiye at the awards ceremony held in Huzhou, Zhejiang Province, China, on October 17. Şahin emphasized that Midyat, which is experiencing significant developments in tourism, will gain further international recognition, saying: "We believe the number of tourists visiting here will increase significantly. Tourists from all over the world want to visit Anıtlı first. We have implemented many excellent projects, including infrastructure and superstructure, as well as restoration work, and we are nearing completion. We are hopeful. We believe that next season, we will reach a number far exceeding the 3.5 million tourists who visited Midyat in the past nine months. Anıtlı is now a well-known village not only in Mardin but also worldwide. It attracts the attention of both local and international tourists. Midyat is now a district known not only in Türkiye but also worldwide; it is a shining star. We look forward to welcoming everyone to Midyat." "These precious assets are worth seeing." Anıtlı Neighborhood Headman Habip Doğan also stated that the neighborhood has become a focal point after being selected as the best tourism village. Doğan stated that they have always had a certain number of visitors, but that the number of visitors has increased since receiving the award, and that they believe this will increase further. He continued: "We extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who worked to make this the best tourism village. Our village, whose natural beauty has been preserved, boasts numerous cultural assets rooted in history. Visitors will be very pleased with its historical and cultural assets, especially the Virgin Mary Church, the ruins of Mor Sobo Cathedral, and its stone-textured houses. These valuable assets are worth seeing. This is a well-deserved award. At this rate, I believe the number of tourists will increase daily." "Next year, Anıtlı will be the shining star of tourism." Zeynettin Mağat, a tourism travel agency representative in the district, stated that Midyat has received significant interest in recent years. Mağat noted that Anıtlı has now become one of the most popular destinations for visitors, saying: "The historic village of Anıtlı has become one of the world's best tourist villages. As tourism professionals, we are delighted by this. Midyat is already attracting significant interest. We believe Anıtlı will attract even more attention, and we will be hosting more international guests. We are receiving high bookings. Next year, Anıtlı will be the shining star of tourism." Zeynep Sain, a staff member at the Midyat State Guesthouse, the district's most visited destination, said that they experience high traffic during the summer months and that they continue to experience that vibrant atmosphere despite the winter season. Sain said, "The fact that the historic village of Anıtlı has become one of the world's best tourist villages will further boost tourism in Midyat, the city of languages and religions. Despite winter, there is a high density of visitors. I believe this density will increase exponentially. I believe our district, which has become Türkiye's shining star, will now become the shining star of the world." "It is truly magnificent." Renas Çiçek said that they visited Anıtlı with their family and toured the historical sites. Çiçek, stating that they were particularly impressed by the Virgin Mary Church, sa...
