I'm staying on Gili Trawangan and decided to take the public boat over to Gili Air for the day, mostly to bring Susan to a little Italian cafe I love that does proper coffee and homemade pastries. We had a real feast there and it might be my favourite spot in the islands even if it never gets much attention. But the thing that actually shifted my mood by the end of the day wasn't the food or the view on its own. It was something simpler that I think a lot of people forget about when they dream of moving here, and it's the reason some days in paradise still feel empty.
