The Catholic Contemplative Nuns of the Order of Saint Clare Capuchin (OSCCap) held a solemn and joyful celebration of the Perpetual Vows of Sister Maria Serafin Soares OSCCap at the Hall of the Santa Clara Convent, Km 9, Jurusan Kupang, Kefamenanu, on Monday, June 22, 2026. The Eucharistic celebration was led by the Bishop of Atambua, Mgr. Dominikus Saku, accompanied by concelebrant priests. Also present were the Dean of Kefamenanu, Fr. Kanisius Oki, Pr., Parish Priest of Saint Anthony of Padua Sasi, Father Titus Kiam Lingardi, OFM Conv., Parish Priest of Haikesak, spiritual guides and companions of the Santa Clara Monastery in Kefamenanu, the family of Sister Maria Serafin Soares, and invited guests from various regions, including the neighboring Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste. In his homily, Bishop Dominikus Saku emphasized that religious vows are a noble calling, realized through total surrender to God. He stated that perpetual vows are not merely a promise, but a lifelong commitment to a life of chastity, poverty, and obedience as a form of faithfulness in following Christ. "A religious is called to bear witness to God's love in the world through a life of prayer, simplicity, and sincere service," Bishop Atambua addressed the congregation who filled the celebration hall. The Superior of the Santa Clara Monastery in Kefamenanu, Sister Kolete Sinulingga, OSCCap, in her remarks expressed her gratitude and appreciation to Sister Maria Serafin Soares, OSCCap, who has confidently dedicated her life to God's calling to religious life. "We are grateful for Sister Maria Serafin's faithfulness and courage in responding to God's call. May the perpetual vows professed today be a blessing to the Church and an inspiration to the younger generation to boldly follow God's call," she said. The celebration was made even more meaningful by the motto of her Perpetual Vows chosen by Sister Maria Serafin Soares, OSCCap: "Do not be afraid, little flock," inspired by the Gospel of Luke 12:32. This motto serves as a spiritual foundation that affirms her belief that God always accompanies and cares for everyone who faithfully seeks His Kingdom. In her remarks, Sister Maria Serafin Soares, OSCCap, shared the story of her vocation, which began to develop when she was in junior high school. Through a long process of prayer, mentoring, and formation, she finally decided to dedicate her life to God through the Saint Clare Capuchin Order. Emotionally, she also expressed her gratitude to the superiors of the monastery, her mentors, the community, her family, and all those who had supported and prayed for her vocation, leading to her taking her final vows. The Saint Clare Convent (Capuchin Clares/OSCCap) in Kefamenanu, East Nusa Tenggara Province, was founded in 2006 as a contemplative community focused on prayer, silence, and brotherhood. The Saint Clare Order itself was founded by Saint Clare of Assisi and Saint Francis of Assisi in 1212 and is known as a cloistered order devoting its life entirely to prayer and spiritual service to the Church and the world. The celebration of Sister Maria Serafin Soares OSCCap's final vows was a moment of profound faith and a tangible testimony of the courage of a religious in faithfully responding to God's call. Through the motto "Do not be afraid, you little flock", Sister Maria Serafin invites all people to continue to believe in God's providence and prioritize the Kingdom of God in every journey of life.
