Upper Farleyer: Fishing on the Upper Tay
A fair proportion Upper Farleyer is streamy water, with a number of good holding pools. In low to medium heights this beat has excellent fly water. Some would argue this is the best fly beat on the Upper Tay, and the full width of the river can comfortably be fished from the bank or wading. This beat benefits from being at the junction of the River Lyon, as especially when the Lyon is low, fish accumulate in the beat before running the river. Fish can be caught from opening day, but chances increase as the spring progresses with the best catches of sparkling fresh fish often being made int he late spring. In the summer grilse can provide exciting sport and then autumn spates usually see an influx of more fish on their final run to the Lyon from the lower Tay. The beat is very accessible with good parking and a very comfortable and characterful fishing hut. It is set in splendid surroundings with secluded wooded banks with Ben Lawers and the hills of Glen Lyon as a backdrop.
