Uplistsikhe Cave City | Georgia’s Ancient Rock-Cut Wonder

Located just outside the city of Gori, Uplistsikhe is one of the most fascinating historical sites in Georgia and one of the oldest urban settlements in the Caucasus. Carved into a sandstone hillside more than 2,000 years ago, Uplistsikhe was once an important religious, political, and trading center along the ancient Silk Road. Unlike many cave cities that remain hidden underground, much of Uplistsikhe is now completely exposed to the open air. Over the centuries, earthquakes and erosion have caused large sections of the original city to collapse, leaving behind the impressive rock-cut structures visitors can explore today. In this video, I walk through the ancient settlement and visit its surviving buildings while telling you about the history of a city, that i have visited MANY times as a tourleader. The elevated location also offers beautiful views over the Mtkvari River Valley and the surrounding Georgian countryside, making Uplistsikhe one of the most scenic archaeological sites in the country. Located only a short drive from Gori, the birthplace of Joseph Stalin, Uplistsikhe is a must-see destination for anyone interested in history, archaeology, and Georgia’s ancient past. --------------------- Who is behind this channel?
