Is Mackenzie Shirilla's Own Prison Record Killing Her Chance At Parole?

Mackenzie Shirilla told her mother on a recorded prison call that she wants to become a life coach when she gets out. She has thirty-six conduct violations in under three years at the Ohio Reformatory for Women — guilty on thirty-two. She refuses rehabilitation programs. She calls herself the third person harmed in what she still describes as a car accident. Her parole eligibility is September 2037. The question is whether that date means anything anymore. Since entering the facility, her conduct record has grown steadily — unauthorized medication, altered prison clothing, contraband, refusing work assignments. The entry that stands out most: more than a hundred video visits with a former inmate who wasn't an approved visitor, conducted under someone else's name. On monitored calls, Shirilla has made clear she doesn't believe she belongs where she is. She's talked about the life she plans to build. She's shown no sign she's engaged with any program the institution offers. Then there's her family. Steve Shirilla lost his teaching job at a Catholic elementary school after appearing on Netflix's The Crash defending his daughter. The Diocese of Cleveland confirmed his contract at Mary Queen of Peace School was not renewed. He went on a podcast and challenged anyone to produce evidence Mackenzie did this deliberately — while a judge's written findings sit in the public record. On camera for Netflix, he said he was fine with his daughter's substance use. Natalie Shirilla was recorded on a prison call telling Mackenzie that Dominic Russo's family are "evil people." Prosecutors decoded calls where Mackenzie and Natalie spoke in a private made-up language to evade monitoring. In one decoded exchange, Mackenzie allegedly asked if they could tell police she had a seizure before the crash. Those calls were introduced as evidence at trial.
