Pasatiempo: A Story of a Golf Club

Following our visit to San Francisco and the Monterrey Peninsula back in September, we filmed some content at Pasatiempo. A course we have wanted to visit for many years, it was a wonderful step back in time to become more acquainted with the work of MacKenzie and also Marion Hollins. Pasatiempo was opened for play in 1929, only weeks before the stock market crash that would lead to the Great Depression, and as well as being where Hollins used to call home, MacKenzie also resided alongside the 6th fairway. In the years that followed, and like many clubs, Pasatiempo became overcrowded with tree coverage, and the striking shapes in the green sites and strategy were gradually muted. Over the last 25 years however, Jim Urbina has been working to restore the course to its former glory, and to what MacKenzie and Hollins would recognise. The product of their work is truly something to behold.
