Brazilian lawyer Jeffrey Chiquini has strongly criticized the conduct of investigations at the Supreme Federal Court (STF) based on a recent decision by the Italian courts, which denied the extradition of former congresswoman Carla Zambelli. According to the lawyer, the Italian Court of Cassation classified Minister Alexandre de Moraes as biased for acting simultaneously as victim and judge in the proceedings. Chiquini argued that the foreign understanding exposes weaknesses in the observance of due process in Brazil and classified the investigations as "exclusively political." Finally, the lawyer challenged the reaction of ministers like Luís Roberto Barroso in defense of the measures and called on society to react against what he defined as a "dictatorship of the judiciary."
