Drum Nomad – Tim Baltes – Full Interview with Sean Lane (Pedro The Lion, Silver Torches)

In early 2019, I was lucky enough to interview a few drummers around Portland and Seattle in the Pacific Northwest. These folks included Justin Potts of Visionary Drum, Jake Endicott of Revival Drum Shop, Remi Aguilella of Daughter, and Sean Lane of Pedro The Lion and Keplinger Drums. Conversing with Sean Lane was a real treat. We met in 2015 at the Chicago Drum Show, where he was working with Gregg Keplinger. At the show, I mentioned to Sean that I would be in Seattle later that year on vacation. I walked from the Public Market area of downtown all the way out to the Trading Musician, where Sean just so happened to be working a shift. It was a pleasure getting reconnected through this conversation. Through this conversation, we better understand the origins of Sean’s drumming and instrument building, as it shows what kind of groundwork was laid for the bike and other instruments he decided to build in his adult life. I’m so gracious for the time Sean gave me, and I hope other people can learn as much from this conversation as I did. Enjoy! These Drum Nomad talks between Tim Baltes and another drummer give us a look at how drums and drumming work into any life, and we learn what lies beyond the instrument for several individuals.
